FINALLY! Some updates!
Sorry to keep everyone in such suspense! It's been a bit crazy lately, so I'll start with the list of milestones. I promise to be better at updates!
2/26/07 - 1st ultrasound
First, our 1st ultrasound showed 3 sacs and 2 heartbeats! We were beyond excited! Charley and my mom came with me and it was beautiful. They look like little pieces of shrimp and their hearts are beating away! They said they'd keep an eye on the 3rd sac, but it appeared there was nothing in it! It was a beautiful site! Just beautiful!
3/13/07 - 2nd ultrasound
We saw their heartbeats just flickering away 165 and 170 and they were bopping their little heads and moving their little arm and leg buds!! I just wanted to squeeze them right there and then. My mom was practically laying across me looking at the screen and Charley was standing back closer to the wall just watching. He's excited beyond belief but just doesn't show it that much during ultrasounds! WE EVEN HAVE A VIDEO!!! I ran it down to the photo place to get it switch onto a DVD. I have to pick it up and then I'll try and post the video link on our webpage later! It's just amazing! They look like babies now!

3/14/07 - Trip to the Emergency Room
Well thought I had the stomach flu on Saturday evening. Then, felt great for several days. I went to the bathroom 10 times Saturday night and so when I didn't have a bowel movement (BM) for a few days, I didn't think much of it. When you empty your track, it's pretty standard to go a day or 2 without anything. Well, yesterday, I felt fine. My belly didn't seem to be hurting so I didn't think I was compacted or anything. I ate lunch and dinner but I couldn't get fluids down. Around 6pm I started down hill. I started feeling the urge and knew immediately I was constipated. I tried to go and couldn't, so I did sitz baths...but nothing. I hadn't done an enema because I was so swollen and didn't have one either.
Around 10:45pm, I called my mom (Charley was at work and getting off soon) and I told her we need to go to the hospital. She picked me up. I was so weak, could barely walk because of weakness and EXTREME nausea and compaction on a swollen rectum. I waited for 2 hours of misery in the ER, but when I got back there the doctor was AMAZING! He even said I would be a dream patient for a med student. He was referring to my host of issues in the last 3 years alongside my knowledge of what I had. Not something I'm proud of, but seriously, I haven't found many ER doctors that can relate so well and he was amazing. He said he didn't want to do an enema because I was so irritated down there. But would do one later if needed. That doctor was awesome. I told him my history and he offered me pain meds and extra Zofran to go. Luckily, I have prescriptions for both, so I told him I'd be fine. He was impressed with what I knew and he was really nice to have a conversation with. He didn't shoot me down on anything I said and he actually said that my theory on having both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's is a possibility even tho the GI and colon surgeon say it's not possible. His response was.. "Well, if it's absolutely not possible, then that means it is." I chuckled! He knew I was in pain, but we reassured him I have a high pain tolerance and I really just want to go to the bathroom whether it hurts or not!
So, they gave me magnesium citrate. Can we say.. MIRACLE DRUG! Holy cow! I went in about 45 minutes...or should I say gave birth in my bowel? They gave me an injection of Zofran and told me it's not typically constipating (that reassured me) and also gave me some before I left. I slept about an hour. Then was sent home. I found out there is a different enema the doctor suggested to me and that magnesium citrate is sold over the counter. So, hopefully no more trips to the ER for that again! They did give me 2 full bags of fluids and my body sucked them in quick. It was shell shock on my system and I shook for most of the time. I must of been severely dehyrated too. I think I had about 5 sheets and 5 blankets. And, honestly, it's the reason I went in. I KNEW I was dehydrated and I was worried about my babies. I did know that I needed a solution to clear my bowel and everything I knew hadn't worked.
I am resting today and doing well. My bowel is EXTREMELY sensitive, but I'm drinking gatorade and boost today. I should be fine for now and I'm back to all my usual meds. It was just scary, but so glad to have relief!
