14 hours until surgery!
We're almost there. 14 more hours until they wheel me into the OR. Surgery is at 10am at Tampa General and I have to be there at 8am, EST.
We had pre-op today and we went over some things that gave me comfort. My belly will be numbed with a local anthestic. They will give me a "twilight" drug to give me some conscious sedation, but Dr. Q wants his patients awake and talking. I'm sure for good reason, but it is still very scary. They put a curtain up, so I won't see any of it. And, the drug they use for conscious sedation, they ordered extra for me. Why? Well, twilight drugs are commonly used for colonoscopies and Egg Retrievals for IVF. I've had 2 of each and have built up a tolerance to that type of drug and carrying twins doesn't help. He told me if I needed something or felt something, to just ask. It made me feel better, but my mom was there to remind him I usually just sit in pain. I'm not one to "whine" about pain and such. So, they are now aware of it and have told me to ask.
Before surgery, they will check for both heartbeats and make sure they are okay. Before inserting any needles, Dr. Q and the sonographer take quite a bit of time finding the right spot and then directing the needle through the placenta can be difficult. But, I am off Heparin and baby aspirin, so that should "help" keep the placenta from bleeding out. The surgery plans are to put a shunt into Reagan's bladder. They also have it listed for an amnioinfusion where they can put sterile fluid into her amniotic sac and build up her fluid. If the shunt stays put and working and the amniotic fluid stays normal, Reagan has a CHANCE at living!!! A lot of things must happen, so please continue those prayers.. They are gratefully appreciated beyond what everyone even thinks!!! We have a 7% chance of losing both our baby girls and I'm petrified, but trying to have faith that all will be okay.
They will monitor me with a contraction machine for about an hour or so and if all is well, they will release me with a follow-up ultrasound Friday morning at 8am and bedrest for 24 hours. If any complications arise, even just 1 or 2 contractions, they will keep me overnight for monitoring. Now, I could get potentially longer bedrest (2 weeks) and I'm almost expecting it. And, then I'll have weekly ultrasounds to monitor Reagan's shunt and fluid levels.
That is the gist of things for now. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pray for our baby girls!!! They need the power of prayer! Pray that Addy & Reagan stay strong during surgery and that Reagan's shunt last a LONG time and her fluid level STAYS within normal range!
Thank you all again!!!

I pray that things go smoothly and both babies come through this happy and healthy.
Always on my mind and in my prayers.
