A Midnight Addy Update!
WOW! So far, so good! We are through 4 feedings, 1/2 of her total feedings that I committed to doing. And, she's done very well....very very well!
FYI: 30ccs equals 1 ounce. Addy can take 40-42ccs - 1 1/3 ounce roughly or a hair more.
At 3pm, she took 40ccs. It took some effort, but she grunted through the whole thing and finished within 30 minutes. Had one desat that dropped into the 70s (should be above 89), but recovered fairly quickly. She seemed really tired.
At 6pm, I was a little late getting there and Daddy started feeding her (his 2nd time feeding her). He did the entire feed with a little help from Mommy. Addy handled it pretty well. She had a couple desats which were discouraging, but Daddy doesn't exactly know the signs of what to look for on her and he's afraid of hurting her by the way he's holding her or putting the bottle in her mouth. She finished within 30 minutes with a little help. She was too stubborn to burp though!
At 8:30pm, I gave her a good bath. She didn't cry at all through it and as she always does at bathtime, she started sucking her hands and rooting for food. So, I started her bottle 5 minutes early at 8:55pm. By 9:07pm, she was done eating and had burped midway too. She took 42ccs and had absolutely NO DESATS!!! I was SHOCKED! I was for sure she wasn't going to eat well at midnight..but along we trucked...
At 12am, Addy was screaming. Not sure she was frustrated with the noise, hungry, or mad because she was cold and had to get her clothes off to change her diaper. But, we gave her her bottle and she back sucking, swallowing, and breathing like a pro!!!!! We started at 12:05am and finished by 12:20am. She took it in 15 minutes and burped midway. NO DESATS AGAIN!!! She did choke a bit on her own swallow while she was getting burped...she recovered from that on her own just like any newborn, but she did not desat at ALL while she was eating.
So.... we have a 3am, 6am, 9am, and noon feeding left. If she continues to do well, I "might" consider staying a 2nd night to keep her feeds going... we shall see!!! I just cannot believe this!!
