7 for 7!
YAHOO!!!
We are 7 for 7!
At 6am, she nippled a little slower, but still took 40ccs in 30 minutes. She was a stubborn burper, but we got the job done....
After her 6am, I FINALLY slept some more! I've slept a total of maybe 2 hours - 2 1/2 hours, but I feel great!!! (Adrenaline is wonderful isn't it? We'll see what a zombie I am in about 4-6 more hours though!)
At 9am, I hopped on down (not really, but I was quite perky!) to the NICU and met OT (occupational therapy). I sort of chuckled and said "Not sure we need you now." And, she whole-heartedly agreed! She said she just wanted to observe, so obviously, I was nervous. But, I talked through the whole thing and she made me feel very comfortable. Addy behaved and had no desats what-so-ever. She was a gulper at times, but she said I paced her well through those gulps (YEAH!). I know her cues very well, and the OT thinks so to. She gave me one pieces of advice to help her get into the "suck, swallow, breathe" rhythm, but other than that she said I did well and so did Addy! YAHOO! (Feeding a Preemie isn't easy, it takes much practice! I've just fed her enough to watch her cues and see what she does before she has a drop. I catch her pretty fast now and the OT caught on quickly to how I paced her.) She took 42ccs in about 20-25 minutes. Again, very well...especially since it was her 7th feeding in a row!!
Her nurse today did say she is dropping her sats between feeds but recovering quickly. So, it sounds like that's a "immaturity" thing, but she is taking her bottles VERY well, so they are all kind of shocked with the desats. The desats could hold her back, but crossing the feeding hurdle is HUGE! If we can avoid Brady's (heart rate desats) and she can grow out of her Apneas (oxygen desats) in the next few days...then we are on the way home VERY VERY VERY SOON!!!!!!
Oh, and for those keeping track, she weighed 5lb 0.4oz last night. I look for them to start increasing her feeds and soon spreading her feeding time to every 3-4 hours since she is now burning more calories trying to eat all of her formula by bottle.
I'm back in the room and heading for a shower and then back to meet with the social worker on the HAM (home apnea monitor) teaching. We have to set all that up. The HAM will be our friend for the next few months, but we actually grateful for that machine! I'm sure it'll help me keep some sanity. I'm getting my car seat check on my car today and we're hoping to do Charley's car this afternoon. We installed the bases where we thought were appropriate from the knowledge we have and they will check it all out with her car seat today. I was awfully proud to have the base latched in so darn tight that it doesn't move!
We're doing it!!! And, we're SO very proud of Miss Addy!! She's come a LONG LONG way in 6 weeks and 5 days!

I am so happy for you! This is so great! Addy just needs her mommy and everything will be fine. She is only have desats when you aren't around. She is trying to tell the nurses she wants her mommy! Yay Addy!

Keep up the good work girls! I am so happy for you and Charley. But make sure he gets his turn with the those early morning feeds...feeding, burping, changing, rocking, all on 3 hours sleep! This is very important because Mommy will need a break sometimes. Love to all, especially Miss Addy!
