The Sunday Paper
You'd think this was something normal. Reading the Sunday paper, but I've recently realized it's anything short of normal for me anymore. I love getting the Sunday paper. Loved reading comics, and quick new stories, and LOVE looking through ads! It's fun to "Window Shop."
Well, I noticed tonight as I was scanning through the paper what I do EVERY Sunday without really paying attention to what I've been doing.
Before the girls' birth:
Get Paper
Rummage through Ads
Check out the front page
Scan through anything interesting
Read the Engagements/Weddings
After the girls' birth:
Get Paper
Get Local Section
Read Obituaries, specifically look for young children who have passed.
Read Birth Records and look for twin girls, or twins or multiples period.
Read Death Records to see cause of young deaths
THEN, read Ads
It's almost morbid isn't it? An old coworker used to always joke at lunch as he read the obituaries "Just making sure I'm still alive."
Oh my, the way life changes when you bury your child. I didn't realize what I'd been doing until today. I don't think it's wrong to read through them. In fact, I occasionally used to read birth records just to think of names. I started reading death records after I found Reagan's death record in the paper on Addy's 1 month birthday. Reading obituaries? Maybe that just comes with age.
It's just quite odd and I felt the need to get it off my chest!

Isn't this the truth? My new sense of normal also includes visiting cemetaries while on the road for work and checking out the 'baby' section and just saying a prayer for those parents.
Or, receiving the NOMOTC newsletter and looking to see if anyone else has lost multiples.
Or, looking at the obits to see how young someone is because you've encountered someone else who's been affected by suicide.
It's a very interesting path of life that we take. I'm sure no one else would like to walk in our shoes.
Hugs to you!
