Resilient
Main Entry: re·sil·ient
Function: adjective
Pronunciation: -y&nt
Etymology: Latin resilient-, resiliens, present participle of resilire to jump back, recoil, from re- + salire to leap : characterized or marked by resilience: as a : capable of withstanding shock without permanent deformation or rupture b : tending to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change
That is the keyword that Dr. Stone titled me today. Resilient. I found it quite interesting. He was obviously referring to my transition off of steroids, my adjustment to blood pressure medications, my decrease in bowel frequency but my increase in pain, my ability to sit in a car for 8 total hours once a month to receive a treatment or placebo, to somehow continue to work 40 hours a week, to care for my 16 month old little girl, and to keep doing so with a smile on my face (sometimes).
Resilient.
That's the word he coined me with. Is it fitting? I think etymology "b" explains resilient well. "Tending to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change." Misfortune and change. Two very distinct words in my life for the past three years. I think I'd focus more on the word "change" then misfortune, because I consider all of my misfortunes to be blessings....not always obvious blessings, but blessings indeed.
So, what's going on after today 3rd infusion, 4th visit for the clinical? Not too much. I'm only up 1lb since the last visit 2 weeks ago, so the drop in steroids has definitely start to cut back on the weight gain, but I have a LOT of weight to lose to get things back to normal. I'm giving myself through the holidays and then I'll focus on losing some weight and getting back to being a bit healthier.
But, my blood pressures are s.l.o.w.l.y. getting back to normal. They are no more closely in the 120-30s/80s. Not great, but MUCH better then where we were. Slow and steady....slow and steady. They DID up my blood pressure meds, and today is my last day of Prednisone. I really haven't noticed too drastic of a change, except 1) more pain, and 2) more gas and spasms. Dr. Stone IS getting me a script for anti-spasmatic drugs on an as needed basis. He suggested these instead of narcotics in situations where the spasms are causing the pain. That doesn't happen often, but I, myself, would prefer this option to be available, as the "spasms" are what caused me to be in the hospital for 8 days over the summer.
We return back in 4 weeks. It'll be nice to have a it of a break, since we had to go 3 times in 4 week span (week 4, 6, & 8). We're just exhausted of driving. We love the time we get to spend with our cousins in St. Louis, but it's been exhausting on us in all aspects.
But, only more important news today! As we were carrying stuff down the steps at our cousins house, I somehow slipped on a step (I'm still not sure how). All I really remember was my foot slipping, trying to catch myself and my left food turning, popping, and then practically my whole leg flipping around me. I screamed a few rated R words and thank God my mom was in front of me as if she wasn't, I likely would of crashed from the top of the steps to the bottom. I took my breathe away and I crawled back to the top of the stairs and just laid down. I thought I was going to puke! So, after I caught my breathe, I realized I could move it, but it H.U.R.T! I KNOW I didn't break it, as with 2 pain pills, I'm able to walk "fairly" easily on it (or should I say limp?). But, it's either bruised REALLY bad or sprained. After a 4 hour trip home, it is now swollen a bit, but nothing major. I'll see what it looks like and feels like Monday and then I'll maybe go in and see the doc whenever I take Addy to get her flu shot. It might require a quick x-ray. Right now, I'm just going to elevate it as much as possible and TRY (yeah, I know, stop laughing if you really know me!) to stay off of it this weekend. If it's a bruise, by Monday, it should be fine. If it's a sprain or some sort of slight fracture, it'll still be hurting and I can get it checked out. I swear I'm clumsier then heck!
But, I say that R & S (Rachel & Shannon - their identity is released!)'s meals are REALLY going to come in handy now, as there's no way I could stand on my feet and cook a meal after this stunt. Oh, and they made some super delicious stuff. The chicken noodle soup, OH MY! I WANT the recipe! The Baked Ziti? SAME THING!!! SO SO SO SO good!
Off for now, we just got home about an hour ago, and I am wiped. I'll post some photos this weekend. Our cousins got Addy some SUPER cute stuff! They TOTALLY did not need to spoil her, but they did anyway!
We love them the same! Oh, and Scott F., if you are reading, I let her have not one, but TWO candy canes on Friday... and I just wanted to let you know you forgot to bring the detergent and the stain remover with the candy canes!
